National Love Your Pet Day

February 20th is National Love Your Pet Day. This is a day to pamper your pets and celebrate the bond you have with them. Pets bring a lot of joy and companionship to our lives, and this day offers a chance to show your appreciation. Consider doing the following activities on National Love Your Pet Day this year.

Adopt a New Pet

If you’ve been thinking of getting a new pet, visit a local shelter or contact a local rescue group about adopting one. When you adopt a pet, you’re giving an animal in need a loving home. Whether you want a mixed breed or you have a specific breed in mind, rescue groups and animal shelters can help you find your new furry friend.

Support a Local Rescue Group or Animal Shelter

If you adopted pets from a local rescue group or animal shelter, consider donating on National Love Your Pet Day as a way to show your support. You can send a monetary donation, or check with the rescue group or shelter to see if they need supplies donated, such as blankets or towels.

Take Your Pets for a Long Walk

Spend more time with your pets by taking them on a longer walk than usual. This gives them a chance to explore the neighborhood and get more exercise. Being able to take in new scents and see new sights is an exciting activity for many dogs.

Play with Your Pets

Playtime offers a great way to strengthen your bond with your pets. Set aside extra time to play with your pets in order to celebrate National Love Your Pet Day. Whether you have dogs that love playing fetch outside or cats that enjoy chasing toy mice around, your pets will appreciate the extra quality time with you.

Take Your Pets for a Car Ride

If you have pets who love going for car rides, plan on doing one with them this February 20th. You can take your pets for a short drive around the neighborhood, or do a longer drive with them around town.

Give Your Pets New Toys or Treats

Surprise your pets with new toys on National Love Your Pet Day. You can use these new toys during your extra long playtime. You can also surprise your pets with their favorite treats or try new treats they might enjoy. If you’re currently training them, use the treats as rewards during any training sessions you have on this day.
